Overview
Founded in 2004, the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is one of the strongest and most influential faculties of the university in terms of infrastructure and academic strength.
Adhering to the motto “Being True and Honest, Craftsmanship and Wisdom”, the School is committed to cultivating high-quality, application-oriented talents and empowering the development of future cities. With a focus on excellence in teaching and engineering practice, the School aims to nurture students’ ability to solve practical problems and think innovatively. Students are trained to acquire professional knowledge in mechanical design, electrical control, and robotics, while also developing communication, teamwork, and project management skills essential for sustainable development and enhancing their overall competitiveness.
The School currently offers:1 first-class undergraduate major recognized by Shandong Province;2 majors under the Shandong Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program;1 Qingdao City model program for industry-education integration in application-oriented universities;1 provincial first-class undergraduate course; 1 provincial online open course; 1 second prize for Shandong Provincial Teaching Achievement Award; 7 second and third prizes for the Shandong Provincial Higher Education Science and Technology Award; 1 Shandong Provincial Engineering Research Center; 10 provincial education and teaching reform projects; 4 Ministry of Education Industry-Education Cooperation Collaborative Education Projects; 7 provincial-level scientific research projects.
In addition, under faculty guidance, students have achieved over 500 national and provincial awards in academic and skill competitions. In 2024, the Intelligent Manufacturing Training Base was approved as a Provincial Demonstration Internship (Training) Base for Ordinary Colleges and Universities in Shandong Province.
The School has established four student innovation clubs—the 3D Innovation Club, Intelligent Vehicle Research and Development Club, Electronic Design Competition Innovation Club, and Robotics Club. Students are encouraged to actively participate in major national competitions such as the National College Student Digital Innovation Design Competition, Advanced Drawing Competition, Smart Car Competition, Electronic Design Contest, Entrepreneurship Simulation Competition (“Xuechuang Cup”), “Challenge Cup” Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, and the Shandong University Student Innovation Competition.
Through the approach of “learning through competition and teaching through competition”, students’ innovation capability and engineering practice skills are significantly enhanced. Over the past three years, students have won about 150 national and provincial awards.
In recent years, the School has focused on supporting regional independent innovation strategies and the development of the Blue Economic Zone on the Shandong Peninsula. Centered on intelligent manufacturing, the School has advanced education and research in digital design and manufacturing, mechatronics technology and applications, electronics and energy technology, advanced equipment and intelligent control, and robotics integration and manufacturing.
By closely integrating engineering-oriented talent cultivation with enterprise production, the School has established a multi-structured industry-university-research collaboration mechanism, using industry-education integration as the key approach and application-oriented education as the foundation.
The School has built close partnerships with leading domestic and international manufacturing enterprises such as Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence (Qingdao) Co., Ltd., MESNAC Co., Ltd., TELD New Energy Co., Ltd., Dingxin Communication Technology Co., Ltd., Meichen Industrial Group Co., Ltd., Haomai Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd.
Majors
Faculty Strength
The School currently has 102 faculty and staff members, including 88 full-time teachers. Among them, 28 hold the title of associate professor or above (32%), and 38 are dual-qualified teachers with both academic and professional expertise (43%).
The faculty includes one Shandong Provincial Teaching Master and one Qingdao Municipal Teaching Master. Teachers have participated in the formulation of one national standard and three group standards.
A total of 11 teachers have been selected for the Qingdao Bureau of Industry and Information Technology Expert Database, 5 for the Qingdao Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction Expert Database, and 5 for the Qingdao Science Popularization Expert Database. In addition, the School’s 3D Technology Science Popularization Studio has been recognized as a team expert studio in Qingdao.
Faculty members have won multiple first and third prizes in the National College Teachers’ Teaching Innovation Competition, three third prizes in the Shandong Young Teachers’ Teaching Competition, and have received over 100 awards as outstanding instructors in national and provincial innovation contests.
Wang Xuelin
Vice Dean, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineerin
Dr. Wang Xuelin holds a Ph.D. in Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, a B.S. in Industrial Automation from Beijing Institute of Technology, and an MBA (Executive Education Program) from Renmin University of China. He is a Senior Engineer in Automatic Control and previously served as the Executive Vice President of the Suzhou Institute of Machine Vision Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. With over 20 years of experience in leading research institutes and enterprises, Dr. Wang has extensive expertise in technology development, project and product management, R&D leadership, marketing, and administrative management.
Wang Jiali
Vice Dean, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
Dr. Wang Jiali received his Ph.D. in Mechatronic Engineering, M.S. in Mechanical Design and Theory, and B.S. in Automotive Design and Manufacturing from Harbin Institute of Technology. He has held senior management positions in leading enterprises such as China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), SANY Heavy Industry, Sinopec, and Siasun Robot & Automation Co., Ltd. With over 20 years of experience in renowned research institutes, enterprises, and national key laboratories, Dr. Wang has successfully implemented more than 20 intelligent production line projects. He has completed one major project under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), led three provincial and ministerial-level research projects, and co-authored the monograph “Anthropomorphic Multi-Finger Dexterous Hand and Its Manipulation Control.”
Mei Ning
Professor, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
Dr. Mei Ning received his Ph.D. in Engineering from the Department of Power Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, where he also earned his M.S. and B.S. degrees in Naval Architecture. He serves as a Director of the Engineering Thermophysics Society for Higher Education, an Executive Director of the Shandong Science and Technology Museum Association, a Director of the Shandong Energy Conservation Association, and a Member of the Qingdao Association for Science and Technology. He is also on the editorial boards of Thermal Science and Technology and the Journal of Ocean University of China, and is a Specially Appointed Expert of the Chinese Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese (Marine Professional Committee). Dr. Mei has previously taught at Nanjing University of Science and Technology and Ocean University of China, and held visiting professorships at several leading international universities, including the University of Rhode Island, The Ohio State University, École Centrale de Nantes (France), University of Strathclyde (UK), and Iowa State University (USA). He has led or participated in five national research projects, one provincial, and three municipal-level projects, and has published 14 academic papers and obtained 9 invention patents.
Lu Jianhui
Professor of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
Harbor, Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Ocean University of China Bachelor of Mechanical Manufacturing from Shanghai Jiao Tong University With over ten years of product R&D experience in national key scientific research enterprises, he served as Deputy Director of the General Process Department and Chief Structural Engineer, gaining extensive practical experience. He worked at Ocean University of China and was hired as a master's tutor, during which he completed a number of scientific research tasks such as major national science and technology sub-tasks, and published more than 40 scientific research papers.
Chen Guangjuan
Distinguished Professor, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
Prof. Chen Guangjuan holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and is recognized as a Teaching Master of Shandong Province. She has led the development of several provincial-level high-quality courses, including Shandong Excellent Course, Shandong Excellent Resource Sharing Course, and High-Level Professional Online Open Course, all successfully completed. She also developed two provincial teaching guidelines for the Mold Design and Manufacturing program and established the Shandong Provincial Master Teacher Studio. As a program leader and chief writer, Prof. Chen played a key role in the application and construction of the National Backbone College and High-Quality College Projects for the Mold Design and Manufacturing major. She has received multiple honors, including the First Prize for Shandong Provincial Teaching Achievement and the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the China National Textile and Apparel Council, as well as over 30 awards and titles, such as Outstanding Communist Party Member in the Shandong Education System.
Jiang Jian
Discipline Leader, Department of Mechanical Automation
Postdoctoral Fellow, Tsinghua University Ph.D., University of Science and Technology Beijing B.S., Kunming University of Science and Technology Dr. Jiang Jian is the Discipline Leader of the Department of Mechanical Automation. He has extensive industry and research experience, having served as Deputy General Manager and Director of the Technical Center at Mette Automotive Service Co., Ltd., Deputy General Manager and Director of the Technical Center at Chongqing Dima Industry Co., Ltd., Technical Director of Special Vehicles at Shaanxi Automobile Group Co., Ltd., Director of the Crane Product Research Institute at Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd., and Deputy Director of the Verification Institute at Foton Motor Co., Ltd. Dr. Jiang is a recipient of multiple honors, including recognition as a High-Level Talent under Chongqing’s “Hongyan Program”, the Enterprise Technology Innovation Award from the Chongqing Science and Technology Awards (as principal member), and High-Level Talent of Shandong Province (“Shandong Talent Card” holder). He also serves as a technical evaluation expert in the automotive field for Chongqing Municipality. He has led one National Natural Science Foundation project under the “10th and 11th Five-Year Plans,” two National Science and Technology Support Projects, one China–Belgium Joint Committee on Science and Technology Cooperation Project, and one Key Project funded by the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission. As first author, he has published five high-quality papers indexed by EI and other databases.
Xu Fengrui
Discipline Leader, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
Ph.D. in Control Science and Engineering, Central South University M.S. in Control Engineering, Central South University B.S. in Automation, Harbin Institute of Technology Dr. Xu Fengrui serves as a Discipline Leader at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. and Master’s degrees from Central South University, majoring in Control Science and Engineering and Control Engineering, respectively, and his Bachelor’s degree in Automation from Harbin Institute of Technology. In 2024, he was recognized as an Outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow at the Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Research Center for Special Aircraft. He has published six papers in leading journals indexed by SCI, EI, and CSCD, and has applied for three national invention patents and five national defense patents. Dr. Xu participated in the National “11th Five-Year Plan” Major Project—the C919 Large Aircraft Wheel Brake System Development—and was honored as an Outstanding Innovative Talent for five consecutive years by the “2011 Collaborative Innovation Center” of the Ministry of Education.
Li Yongxu
Deputy Director, Department of Electrical Automation, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
M.S., Northeastern University B.S., Harbin Institute of Technology Senior Engineer Mr. Li Yongxu serves as the Deputy Director of the Department of Electrical Automation. He holds a Master’s degree from Northeastern University and a Bachelor’s degree from Harbin Institute of Technology, and is a Senior Engineer with extensive academic and industry experience. He has served as a Master’s Supervisor in Biomedical Engineering at Northeastern University and a Joint Master’s Supervisor at Shenyang Jianzhu University, as well as a Committee Member of the Health Examination Branch of the Non-public Medical Institutions Association. Mr. Li has received numerous awards, including the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the First Prize of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award, the First Prize of the Liaoning Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the Science and Technology Achievement Awards from both the Ministry of Education and Liaoning Province, and the China Excellent Patent Award. He has served as Principal Investigator for multiple national-level research projects, holding over 20 patents and software copyrights. He previously held senior executive positions at Neusoft Medical Systems and IDC (S.H.) Medical Equipment Ltd., served as an Expert of the Ministry of Health Expert Database, and is the Founder of Shenzhen Fengjing Network Technology Co., Ltd.
Gao Yuanyuan
Deputy Director, Department of Electrical Automation, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
M.S., Shandong University of Science and Technology B.S., Shandong University of Science and Technology Ms. Gao Yuanyuan serves as the Deputy Director of the Department of Electrical Automation at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. She holds both her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from Shandong University of Science and Technology. She was recognized as one of the Top Ten Teaching Masters in the 5th Qingdao University Teaching Excellence Awards, and previously served as Director of the Teaching Division in the Academic Affairs Office of Dezhou Vocational and Technical College. Ms. Gao has led several research projects, including one project under the Vocational Education Informatization Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, and one project under the 2023 Annual Scientific Research Plan of the “14th Five-Year Plan” of the China Adult Education Association.
Ma Jianting
M.S. & Ph.D., Sorbonne University (Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris VI) B.S., Nanjing Forestry University Dr. Ma Jianting obtained his Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Sorbonne University (Paris VI) and his Bachelor’s degree from Nanjing Forestry University. He is the Founding Partner of Fenglilai Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. and Heyu Medical (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., both specializing in intelligent technology and medical innovation. Dr. Ma also served as Technical Director at AIFORU SARL, a French intelligent systems R&D company, and as R&D Manager at ASSISTMOV SAS, focusing on the development of smart rehabilitation medical systems. He has published several academic papers and holds multiple patents related to intelligent systems and medical engineering.
Xie Lihua
Director, Department of Mechanical Automation, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
Ms. Xie Lihua serves as the Director of the Department of Mechanical Automation. She is a Leading Expert of the Shandong Provincial 3D Printing Science Popularization Studio and has been recognized as a “Dandelion” Science Communication Expert of Qingdao City. She has led eight research and teaching reform projects at the national, provincial, municipal, and university levels, and has authored and edited three design-related textbooks. She has also developed one high-quality online course for undergraduate universities and one outstanding community education course in Shandong Province. Ms. Xie won the First Prize in the National College Teachers’ Metaverse Digital Technology Innovation Competition. As a supervisor, she has guided students to achieve over 300 awards in academic competitions, including more than 60 national-level prizes, and has been honored eight times as an Excellent Instructor in National Competitions.
Meng Qingbo
Academic Leader, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
M.Eng., Professor, Senior Engineer Prof. Meng Qingbo serves as an Academic Leader at the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. He holds a Master’s degree in Engineering and is a Professor as well as a Senior Engineer. His research focuses on intelligent equipment control and industrial robot system integration technologies. With 18 years of experience in large-scale enterprises, Prof. Meng has worked at Qingdao Port Group, MESNAC Co., Ltd., and Haier Digital Technology Co., Ltd. He has led and successfully completed dozens of domestic and international automated production line projects, contributing significantly to the advancement of intelligent manufacturing systems.
Teaching Features
Our school takes pride in its highly qualified and diverse faculty. Over 30% of our teaching staff are dual-qualified professionals, blending academic expertise with industry experience. Among full-time faculty, 30% hold the rank of associate professor or higher, and 80% have obtained a master’s degree or above. Some of our faculty members have studied or worked overseas, bringing international perspectives and experience into the classroom. In addition, two of our teachers have been honored as “Qingdao Lead Teachers” in recognition of their teaching excellence.
Our faculty team has earned multiple prestigious honors, including the titles of “Shandong Provincial Colleges and Universities Youth Innovation Team” and the “Shandong Provincial Teaching Achievement Award.” The team has also been recognized with five “Outstanding Scientific and Technological Achievement Awards” and one “Science and Technology Award” at the provincial level.
In teaching competitions, our faculty have consistently achieved outstanding results: three teachers won third prize in the Shandong University Young Teacher Teaching Competition; three received third prizes in the National University Teacher Teaching Innovation Competition; and one was awarded second prize in both the Shandong Young Teacher Multimedia Competition and the Shandong University Teacher Information Teaching Competition. Moreover, several faculty members have been honored as outstanding advisors in national, provincial, and municipal innovation competitions.
Facilities
Our school operates two dedicated training bases and twenty specialized laboratories that cover the entire spectrum of mechanical design, intelligent manufacturing, robotics and electrical-control coursework. This infrastructure provides high-quality support for degree programs and for university–industry collaboration.

All experimental and training areas are open to students. About 60% of credit-bearing courses are delivered in these areas. After completing safety and equipment-specific certification, students may operate the facilities independently for coursework, capstone projects, competition preparation and research. Systematic practical training enables graduates to meet the competency standard of junior engineers upon completion of their studies.
Graduates Development
With the implementation of the “Made in China 2025” strategy of a manufacturing powerhouse and the continuous promotion and application of intelligent manufacturing technology, the demand for high-quality application-oriented talents will increase dramatically. The employment scope of the graduates of our department involves all walks of life, such as automobile manufacturing, emerging industries, machining, instrumentation, etc. After 3 to 5 years of experience and development, some graduates have become the backbone of enterprise technical supervisors. In addition, some graduates choose to enter colleges and universities to continue their studies.
